Field Hockey Soars Past Eagles on Thursday Evening

BANGOR, Maine – The Bowdoin field hockey team concluded non-conference play with a 5-0 win at Husson on Thursday evening.
 
The Polar Bears climb to 11-3 on the year, dropping the Eagles below .500 at 5-6.
 
Game Highlights
  • Bowdoin controlled the opening quarter of play and broke through eight minutes into action. On a penalty corner, Beth Koeller inserted to Georgie Coezter on the left side. Coetzer fired a shot to the far post for her first goal of the season.
  • With second remaining in the quarter, Caroline Higgins put away a rebound to make it 2-0. Faith Jennings worked the ball on net from the stroke line and Husson's goalie made back-to-back saves. The rebound kicked left to Higgins who deflected the ball into net.
  • Maddie Ferrucci had to make a pair of diving saves as time expired before halftime during an Eagles' penalty corner.
  • The Polar Bears came out and scored on their first penalty corner of the third quarter. Abby Bashaw inserted the ball to Manveer Sandhu who drove a shot into the cage.
  • Coetzer added the team's fourth goal of the game with ten minutes remaining in the contest. Following a corner, Coetzer collected the ball near stroke and composed a shot that found the far right corner.
  • Jennings added another one minute later. Jennings beat a defender into the circle and earned a one-on-one. The goalie came out to slide tackle on the play, but Jennings shot under her pads before Kimmie Goddard made it to the turf.
 
By the Numbers
  • Maddie Ferrucci made eight saves in the contest, before Julia Arsenault played the final five minutes.
  • Goddard made 14 stops for Husson.
  • Bowdoin held a 34-11 shot advantage and 12-5 edge in corners.
