Williams Stifles Bowdoin Offense in Homecoming Football Setback

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin College football team couldn't find the end zone in a 28-3 setback to Williams College on Saturday at Whittier Field. The Ephs improve to 3-0 this season while the Polar Bears fall to 0-3.

Game Highlights

  • After the teams traded three-and-outs to start the game, Williams dented the scoreboard first as Bobby Maimaron found Justin Burke down the middle of the field for a 51-yard touchdown strike midway through the first quarter.
  • Bowdoin appeared to answer on the ensuing kickoff as Aise Pream returned the kick for a touchdown, but the play was called back due to a hold. The Polar Bears were able to march 55 yards on 12 plays and score on a 37-yard field goal by Jotham Casey (the first of his career), to cut the lead to 7-3 after the opening quarter.
  • The teams traded possessions again until midway through the second quarter when Maimaron directed Williams 80 yards in 10 plays, scoring on a four-yard pass to the right flat to Dan Vaughn.
  • After forcing a three-and-out by Bowdoin, Williams was able to gain some more breathing room before halftime, covering 78 yards in eight plays in just 1:58 to score on five-yard pass to Frank Stola with just 27 seconds remaining before the break, carrying a 21-3 edge into intermission.
  • Bowdoin drove into Williams territory early in the third quarter but couldn't add to their total.
  • The Ephs added a second-half score on a 39-yard pass from Maimaron to Stola to close out the scoring.

By The Numbers

  • Williams owned an advantage in total yards (382-291), first downs (18-14) for the game, thanks in great part to Maimaron's 16-25 passing for 265 yards and four touchdown passes.
  • Andre Eden continued to be outstanding for Bowdoin, racking up his second 100-yard performance in his third career game, totaling 167 yards on 23 carries.
  • Andrew Boel went 9-17 passing for 82 yards in the second half for the Polar Bears.
  • Bowdoin totaled three sacks on the day, by Ty Jones-Garland, Joey Brink and Chris Althoff. Dan Fiore led Bowdoin with nine tackles.

Up Next

  • Bowdoin will look to bounce back on the road next Saturday when they travel to Middletown, Conn., to face Wesleyan at 1:00 p.m.
