LAST WEEK
Bowdoin nearly knocked off undefeated Wesleyan, leading the Cardinals with under two minutes to play before a late touchdown pushed Wesleyan over the top in Middletown, 38-35. The Mammoths held off Middlebury on the road in a defensive battle, 17-10 for their second straight win.

ABOUT THE POLAR BEARS
Andrew Boel's first career start for Bowdoin was a memorable one, as the sophomore quarterback went 21-33 for 410 yards and five touchdown passes. The passing yards were the second most in a single game in program history while the five TD's tied the school mark. Having played in parts of three games, Boel now stands second in the league in passing efficiency (178.4) while Colton Fahey (271 yards) is now seventh in the NESCAC in receiving. Despite missing most of the second half last week, Andre Eden (397 yards) is the conference's leading rusher. Defensively, Drew Ortiz leads the league in tackles for loss (8.0)

STAT OF THE DAY
Andrew Boel set a number of records for a Bowdoin quarterback in their first career start, including yards (410) and touchdowns (5). Additionally, he became the first Polar Bear quarterback in school history to throw three touchdown passes of 50+ yards in the same game (50, 51, 72).

SCOUTING THE MAMMOTHS
After falling in week two to Colby, 10-7, the Mammoths have rebounded to win two straight one-score games against Tufts (24-21) and Middlebury (17-10). Amherst ranks in the middle of the league in offense, but has used a strong defense to propel itself to a 3-1 start, as their defensive unit ranks third in the league in scoring (15.3 points/game). The Mammoths have used three different quarterbacks this fall and Tim Swope leads the team defensively with 49 tackles and 2.5 sacks on the year.

BOWDOIN vs. AMHERST - ALL TIME
The two long-time rivals have met continuously since 1946 and have played in every non-war/pandemic season since 1940. Amherst owns a 78-18-2 edge all-time and has won a rivalry-best 14 consecutive games in the series. In 2009, Bowdoin gave Amherst their biggest scare (a 13-12 decision) en route to a perfect 8-0 season. In 2005, the Polar Bears snapped a six-game losing skid to Amherst with a 16-13 win in Massachusetts. The 2004 showdown - a 34-28 Amherst win - was the first overtime game in Whittier Field history.
