Polar Bears Score Three First Quarter Goals En Route to Win at Williams

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The Bowdoin field hockey team put together a two-win weekend with a Sunday 3-2 victory at Williams.
 
The Polar Bears are 9-3 (5-3 NESCAC), while the Ephs are 9-3 (4-3 NESCAC). Bowdoin secured its first win in Williamstown since 2014.
 
Game Highlights
  • Williams scored just 25 seconds into action. Shea van den Broek carried the ball down field and put a shot on pads. The rebound came out to Catherine Torres who put the ball away.
  • Bowdoin responded two minutes later. Jill Cloonan came down the left side and centered a pass to Maya Malenfant in front of net. Malenfant threaded a shot through the legs of Carson Stephenson to make it 1-1.
  • At the seven minute mark, Williams regained the lead. Torres took a direct shot on a penalty corner and van den Broek tracked down the rebound.
  • The Polar Bears tallied an equalizer on a penalty corner two minutes later. Manveer Sandhu fired a drive from the top of the circle and Faith Jennings track down the rebound to put away.
  • The fifth goal of the quarter, and final of the game, came off the stick of Cloonan. Cloonan reversed a shot over the goalie's head.
 
By the Numbers
  • Williams held a 15-11 edge in shots and slight 10-9 corner advantage.
  • Maddie Ferrucci made six saves.
  • Stephenson made a pair of stops in the first quarter. Gates Tenerowicz made five saves in the final 45 minutes of play.
