BRUNSWICK, Maine – A late rally came up just short as the Brandeis men's basketball team escaped Morrell Gymnasium with a 65-62 victory over Bowdoin on Thursday afternoon.
The Judges move to 7-3 with the victory while the Polar Bears fall to 4-5 on the season.
Game Highlights
- After Bowdoin scored the first four points of the contest, Brandeis stormed back with a 15-0 run, sparked by three-pointers from Collin Sawyer and Dylan Lien to take a double-digit advantage just five minutes into the contest.
- The Judges controlled the first half, connecting on 50% of their shots from the field and leading by as many as 16 points.
- Behind nine first-half points from Lien – all on three-pointers – the visitors carried a 42-29 edge into the break.
- Bowdoin slowly began chipping away at the lead, closing the gap to ten points on numerous occasions before an 11-0 run, capped by three-pointers from Zavier Rucker and David Reynolds, trimmed the lead to 52-50 with 6:32 to go.
- Brandeis pushed the lead back to as many as nine points with under three minutes to play, 63-54, and appeared to seal the game on a running lay-in by Chandler Jones with 2:47 to go.
- Scored the next eight points – four from Reynolds and four from Sam Grad – cutting the lead to 63-62 with 31 seconds left.
- Brandeis missed the front end of a pair of one-and-one's in the final 31 seconds, but got the offensive rebound on both occasions. Jones hit 1-2 from the stripe with 22 seconds left to make it 64-62 Brandeis.
- Bowdoin had a chance to win it with a final possession, but turned the ball over with two seconds left on the clock and Lawrence Sabir hit another free throw to seal the victory with 1.6 seconds remaining.

- Chandler Jones led four Brandeis players in double-digits with 16 points, seven rebounds and three assists for the visitors.
- Collin Sawyer and Eric D'Aguanno had 11 points each while Nolan Hagerty had ten points and ten caroms for the Judges.
- Bowdoin's David Reynolds led all players with 22 points while Sam Grad had 17 points, 13 rebounds and four assists.
- Zavier Rucker finished with ten points for the Polar Bears.
- Both teams finished at 42% shooting for the contest but Brandeis owned a 38-31 edge in rebounding.
- The Polar Bears took advantage of 11 Brandeis turnovers for 14 points.
