Polar Bears Ground Eagles to Earn Doubleheader Victories

BANGOR, Maine – The Bowdoin softball team extended its win streak to six with a doubleheader sweep of Husson on Sunday afternoon.

The Polar Bears (19-10) finished off the Eagles (12-8) in a five-inning game one, winning 9-1. The Polar Bears pinned a tighter 2-0 setback on Husson in game two.

Game One Highlights

  • Bowdoin exploded for five runs in the third inning to break the game open. Caroline Rice, Allison Rutz, and Samantha Valdivia all had RBI singles. Maddie Rouhana had a two-run double to account for the inning's scoring.
  • Rice drove in Karlye Pallotta in the fourth, sending a ball to second. Kasey Cunningham scored later in that inning on a wild pitch.
  • Husson plated its lone run in the bottom of the fourth off the bat of Morgan Coleman who doubled to left center.
  • Natasha Fingar added a two-run homerun to left in the fifth to push the score to 9-1.
  • Samantha Roy pitched all five innings and allowed seven hits with four strikeouts.
  • Pallotta, Cunningham, and Andrea Dorsa all had a stolen base.
  • Rice, Rouhana, and Fingar all had two RBI, while also all going 2-for-3 at the plate.

Game Two Highlights

  • The Polar Bears capitalized on a pair of errors in the fourth inning to provide the game's only scoring.
  • Rouhana led off the inning with a double to left and came around to score as Valdivia put the ball in play to center, resulting in an error.
  • Valdivia eventually made her way to third and scored on another error, this time by the third baseman, off a Katelyn Cox ball.
  • Ruby Siltanen allowed just three hits in seven innings of work and fanned five batters.
  • Bowdoin combined for seven hits. Pallotta, Rice, and Rouhana all went 2-for-4. Pallotta had a stolen base.
