Softball Completes Series Sweep of Colby

WATERVILLE, Maine – The Bowdoin softball team completed the series sweep of Colby with a 9-3 win and 8-7 comeback victory on Saturday afternoon.

The Polar Bears climb to 17-10 (5-4 NESCAC), while the Mules (4-16) remain winless in league play at 0-6.

Game One Highlights

  • Colby took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first off an RBI double to right center.
  • Maddie Rouhana tied the game for Bowdoin with an RBI double of her own to right, quickly followed by another from Samantha Valdivia.
  • Ruby Siltanen blasted a two-run homer over the fence before the Mules could find a third out and end the inning.
  • Colby scored once in the fourth and again in the fifth, making it 4-2.
  • Bowdoin plated five runs in the seventh inning to push the game out of reach. Katelyn Cox and Karlye Pallotta both had RBI singles.
  • Caroline Rice hit a two-run triple to left and Allison Rutz added an RBI triple to right.
  • Rutz pitched 4.1 innings and allowed six hits. Siltanen allowed one hit with four strikeouts in relief.
  • Rutz went 2-for-4, while Valdivia and Siltanen were both 2-for-3. Pallotta had a stolen base.

Game Two Highlights

  • Rice gave Bowdoin the early lead in the first with a double to right that drove in Kasey Cunningham. Rice later scored on a sacrifice fly by Rutz.
  • Colby tied the game in the bottom half of the inning. Lolo Niemiec launched a two-run homer over the fence to knot the score at 2-2.
  • Colby plated runs in the second and third innings to take a 4-2 lead.
  • Andrea Dorsa tied the game with two-run shot of her own in the fourth, but the Mules again regained the lead in the bottom half of the inning.
  • Bowdoin rallied to tie the game in the fifth as Fingar drove in two runs with a single up the middle and Valdivia scored on a Caroline Sablone groundout.
  • With runners on first and third with two outs, Rouhana dropped a single to left to plate the game-winning run.
  • Samantha Roy pitched three shutout innings to keep the Bowdoin rally alive.
  • Cunningham went 3-for-4, while Rice, Dorsa, and Pallotta all had a pair of hits.

  • The Polar Bears play at Husson tomorrow at noon for a doubleheader.
