Softball Splits Thursday Against the Knights of Calvin and Geneseo

CLERMONT, Calif. – The Bowdoin softball team split a Thursday doubleheader, defeating Calvin 7-4 before falling 9-4 against Geneseo.

The Polar Bears head into their final day of spring break action with a 10-4 record. The Knights of Calvin are 7-3, while the Geneseo Knights are 8-2.

Game One Highlights

  • Bowdoin took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second off back-to-back solo homeruns from Samantha Valdivia and Maddie Rouhana.
  • The Knights scored in the bottom of the third to make the game 2-1 off an RBI single.
  • A bases loaded walk in the fifth tied the game for Calvin, and the Knights took their first lead on a bases loaded single to left.
  • The Polar Bears responded with four runs in the sixth inning. Allison Rutz tagged bases loaded single to even the game and Caroline Sablone hit a two-run single.
  • Katelyn Cox added another RBI single to round out the inning.
  • The Knights responded in the bottom half of the inning, making it 6-4, but Caroline Rice added an insurance solo homer in the seventh.
  • Kate Hoadley started the game, striking out two and walking two, with six hits allowed.
  • Ruby Siltanen worked 1.1 innings with three hits and as many K's.
  • Samantha Roy closed out the game and allowed one hit.
  • Sablone went 2-for-3 at the plate.

Game Two Highlights

  • Geneseo took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second off a solo homerun to left.
  • The Polar Bears went ahead 4-1 in the fourth. Rouhana, Karlye Pallotta, and Siltanen all drove in runs. Rutz also tagged an RBI double.
  • The remainder of the game's offense came from the Knights who scored four runs in both the fifth and sixth innings.
  • Roy suffered the loss in the circle with 4.1 innings of work and five runs allowed. Roy struck out two and walked four.
  • Rutz pitched .2 innings and allowed three hits.
  • Hoadley pitched one inning.
  • Valdivia and Rutz both recorded a pair of doubles.
  • Siltanen and Pallotta each had a stolen base.
  • Valdivia, Pallotta, and Rutz all went 2-for-4.
