BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin men's and women's swim teams made a strong showing at the opening day of the Maine State Meet.
At the end of the first day, the women sit in second with 313 points, roughly 100 points behind Bates. The men are in third with 279.5 points. The mixed 400 medley relay, comprised of Justin Yang, Anna Roberts, Mary Laurita, and Ted Mebust came in third at the end of the night.
Men's Meet Highlights
- Coleman Komishane came out fast in the 500 free and battled throughout to earn a second place finish with a time of 4:43.
- The men went 1-2 in the 50 fly as Ted Mebust and Justin Yang touched the wall back-to-back.
- Yang turned in a third place finish in the 200 IM with a time of 1:57.91.
- Mebust earned his second top finish of the night with a first place time of 23.55 in the 50 backstroke.
- In the 200 free relay, Mebust, Ethan O'Connor, Jackson Scott, and Julian Abaldo took third with a time of 1:25.87.
Women's Meet Highlights
- The women opened the meet with a victory in the 200 free relay. Amanda Banasiak, Cassie Maroney, Mary Laurita, and Marshall Lowery finished in 1:36.80 to earn the team 30 points.
- Kathleen Kemp turned in a stellar race to earn third in the 500 free, going 5:07.89.
- Laurita won both the 50 free (24.52) and 50 fly (25.73).
- First-year Anna Roberts won the 200 IM by .01 and earned a third place finish in the 50 breaststroke.
- Frankie Garces shaved seconds in a tight 50 backstroke race to take third (27.82).
