Coetzer Nets Overtime Game-Winner As Field Hockey Tops Tufts

MEDFORD, Mass. – Georgie Coetzer scored with less than a minute remaining in overtime to propel the Bowdoin field hockey team to 2-1 victory over host Tufts on Wednesday evening.

The fourth-ranked Polar Bears (14-1, 9-1 NESCAC) earned the number two seed for the NESCAC tournament with the win. The Jumbos (12-3, 8-2 NESCAC) earn the three seed for conference playoffs.

Game Highlights

  • Tufts jumped out to an early lead with a goal just 1:35 into the game. Gillian Roeca controlled the ball low on the right side and fed Beth Krikorian above the right post. Krikorian made a spin move and shot the ball far side for a quick lead.
  • Bowdoin answered in the third quarter. The Polar Bears midfield played a long ball into the circle, which Andie Stallman made a play on. The rebound kicked back into play where Peyton Jackson collected the ball for a hard shot to the left post.
  • The Jumbos mustered six shots in overtime, but it was Bowdoin who found the cage. After defending a pair of corners, the Polar Bears earned one of their own. The ball ended up at the left post for Coetzer to put a shot on pads. The first-year collected her own rebound and put back the game-winner.
