Cardinals Ground Women's Hockey 4-0 in Saturday Matchup

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Wesleyan women's hockey team shut out visiting Bowdoin 4-0 on Saturday evening.

The teams split the weekend series, with Wesleyan sitting at 5-10-1 (2-7-1 NESCAC) and Bowdoin at 3-14-1 (2-8-0 NESCAC).

Game Highlights

  • Bowdoin looked to get on the board three minutes in as Miranda Bell put a point-blank shot towards net, but Allegra Grant turned the bid away.
  • Wesleyan took the lead at 10:54 in the first off a Maggie Curran shot from the right faceoff circle to the far post.
  • Bowdoin nearly tied the game on a power play shot from Julia Surgenor, but again Grant turned the puck away.
  • Six minutes into the third, Grant made a glove save on a Tala Glass that was Bowdoin's most promising look of the period.
  • The Cardinals took control with three goals in six minutes to put the game out of reach. The scoring started with a short-handed mark from Cali Stevens, which was followed two minutes later by a power play goal from Sydnee Goyer. Ally Detre scored the game's final at 12:48.

By the Numbers

  • Kerri St. Denis made 13 stops before being relieved by Dani Marquez in the final 13 minutes.
  • Grant made 29 saves for the shutout.
  • Bowdoin went 0-for-5 on the power play. Wesleyan was 1-for-4 with the extra skater.
