Softball Concludes Regular Season with Home Victories

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin softball team played its third straight day of doubleheader games and came away with a pair of victories over visiting University of Maine Farmington on Monday afternoon.

The Polar Bears climb to 29-11 after winning 4-0 in game one and 13-1 in game two. The Beavers fall to 9-21.

Game One Highlights

  • Claire McCarthy put the Polar Bears on the board with an RBI groundout that scored Kaitlyn Cox in the first. Caroline Rice added an RBI single to center to give Bowdoin a quick 2-0 edge.
  • Maddie Rouhana homered to left in the bottom of the second to extend Bowdoin's lead.
  • Natalie Edwards drove in the final run in the fourth inning, plating Jordan Gowdy on a grounder to third.
  • Kate Hoadley pitched six innings and allowed four hits in the win for Bowdoin. Hoadley struck out one. Samantha Roy pitched the final inning and forced a 1-2-3 finale.
  • Brianna McGrath allowed nine hits in a complete game for the Beavers.
  • Ali Miller was the only player on either team with multiple hits, going 2-for-3.

Game Two Highlights

  • Bowdoin plated three runs in the first and second innings to take a quick 6-0 lead. Lauren O'Shea scored first for the Polar Bears on a wild pitch and McCarthy followed with an RBI double. Allison Rutz drove in McCarthy with a single up the middle.
  • Ruby Siltanen got the offense going in the second inning, singling up the middle to drive in O'Shea. Siltanen later scored on a McCarthy single to right.
  • Rutz drove in the final run of the second with a sacrifice fly to left.
  • Samantha Valdivia and Siltanen both tagged RBI doubles to center in the third. Rice added a two-run single to right and Rutz added a run-scoring single.
  • With Bowdoin leading 12-0, Callie Hammer drove in UMF's first run of the day with a groundout to short in the fourth.
  • Rouhana walked in Bowdoin's final run in the bottom half of the inning.
  • Siltanen earned the win with four innings of work and three hits allowed. The first-year struck out seven batters with no walks. Rutz pitched the final inning and fanned a pair.
  • O'Shea went 2-for-2 and scored three runs. Siltanen went 3-for-4, scoring twice, and added two RBI. McCarthy, Rutz, and Valdivia all went 2-for-3.
