Shonrock Wins Clincher as Men's Squash Takes Conroy Cup

HARTFORD, Conn. - Bowdoin sophomore Tyler Shonrock rallied from two sets down to take a dramatic 3-2 victory and propel the Polar Bear men's squash team to a 5-4 win over Hobart in the finals of the Conroy Cup Division of College Squash Nationals on Sunday afternoon at Trinity College.

The Polar Bears (8-11) finish the year 25th in the nation and claim their first divisional crown at nationals since winning the Summers Cup at the 2011 CSA Tournament.

Match Highlights

  • The Polar Bears received a trio of 3-0 wins to help their cause against the Statesmen, winning at #3 from George Cooley, #7 from Drew Clark and #9 from Arjun Dravid.
  • Cal Fullerton was able to rally from an early deficit to take a 3-1 (8-11, 14-12, 11-7, 11-5) win to give Bowdoin their fourth point.
  • With the match tied at 4-4 and all other action completed, Tyler Shonrock and Divine Wing were left to decide the crown.
  • Wing took an early lead thanks to 11-8, 11-7 wins in the first two sets.
  • Shonrock rallied however, claiming 11-9, 11-9 wins to knot the match score at 2-2. From there, Shonrock dominated the fifth, taking an impressive 11-2 win to give Bowdoin the Cup.
