MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Bowdoin men's and women's swimming and diving teams both posted commanding victories against Wesleyan and Trinity during a two day dual meet.
On the women's side, the Polar Bears left Connecticut with two team wins, two relay wins, and 15 individual victories. They scored 268 points to Trinity's 106 and 247 to Wesleyan's 119. The men also had two team victories, topping Trinity by a score of 244-124 and Wesleyan by a score of 240-129.
Women's Meet
- Senior captain Mariah Rawding won the meet's first event, the 50 breaststroke, in a time of 31.77. Later Friday night Rawding was the team's top finisher in the 100 IM as she finished third in 1:02.29.
- First-year Mary Laurita topped the 50 butterfly with a 26.34. Laurita was second in the 100 butterfly with her 59.55. Classmate Ellie Wargo won that event in 59.38 and junior Ally Fromson-Ho finished third (1:01.05).
- Nadia Eguchi led a Polar Bears sweep in the 500 freestyle with her time of 5:13.87. She was followed by Caroline Watt (5:30.70) and Linnea Patterson (5:20.80). Eguchi returned on Saturday morning to win the 1000 with a time of 10:50.38 while Watt was third in 10:55.31.
- Marshall Lowery was runner-up in the 50 backstroke with a 27.41. Sophomore classmate Amanda Banasiak won the 50 freestyle later on Friday night with her 24.84. Saturday, Lowery dominated the 200 backstroke with her 2:06.35.
- Sterling Dixon won the 200 and 100 freestyles. In the 200 free she cleared two minutes with her 1:58.14. In the 100 she touched in 54.61, just ahead of Patterson in second with a 54.85.
- First-year Kayla Snyder won the 100 breaststroke with a 1:11.51, just faster than classmate Claire Wolff with a 1:11.58. Wolff prevailed in the longer distance, winning the 200 with a 2:31.79, with Snyder second (2:34.59.)
- Wolff and Eguchi went one-two in the 400 IM in times of 4:41.99 and 4:47.28. Jules Kiley finished fourth in 4:55.29. Fromson-Ho and Kiley were first and second in the 200 fly with times of 2:13.31 and 2:17.13, respectively.
- First-year Calla Chan placed third in the 100 backstroke with a 1:03.19.
- Sophomore Thea Kelsey won the one meter diving with 235.95 points. Becca Stern was third with a score of 223.45. On three meter, Kelsey won with 235.25 points and Stern was second with a score of 227.60.
- Bowdoin also won the two relays of the weekend. In the 200 medley relay the A squad of Lowery, Rawding, Laurita and Banasiak touched in 1:49.31. In the 200 freestyle relay the A team of Laurita, Dixon, Rawding, and Banasiak touched first in 1:39.99. The B team of Lowery, Dehavenon, Wargo, and Patterson weren't far behind with a 1:41.11 for third.
Men's Meet
- First-year Michael Tirone won the 50 breaststroke with a 27.35. Senior Michael Netto was third in 27.74. Junior Karl Sarier edged Tirone 53.66 to 54.41 for the 100 IM victory.
- Julian Abaldo and Logan House took the top two spots in the 50 fly with times of 23.23 and 23.65. Abaldo also won the 50 freestyle in 21.67 and senior captain Will Hutchinson finished third (21.74).
- In the 500 freestyle first-year Geoff Chen touched second in 4:48.36. Hutchinson added a second place finish with his 25.25 50 backstroke and another in the 100 backstroke with a 54.13. Dan Williams was second in the 1000 in 10:06.32.
- House snagged second in the 100 butterfly with a 53.12, just faster than first-year Jacob Baltaytis in 53.24.
- Jack Barry was Bowdoin's top finisher in the 200 freestyle, finishing third in 1:48.86. Tirone, Chen, and Sarier were second (1:00.21), third (1:00.59), and fourth (1:01.08) respectively in the 100 breaststroke. Sarier went on to win the 100 freestyle in 47.40 while Chen was third (48.27).
- Stephen Pastoriza posted two victories in a tough double on Saturday morning. The junior won the 400 IM in 4:10.72 and followed that swim up with a 2:11.47 in the 200 breaststroke.
- Macdonald (2:01.27) and Jean Baptiste Andre (2:01.84) finished third and fourth in the 200 butterfly.
- Mitchell Ryan won the three meter diving with a score of 306.00. He was second on one meter with 264.15 points.
- In the 200 medley relay Baltaytis, Tirone, Abaldo, and Michael O'Neal combined for a 1:38.19 to secure a narrow victory. Sarier, Hutchinson, House, and Abaldo touched first in the 200 freestyle relay with a 1:25.83. The B squad of Barry, O'Neal, Macdonald, and Chen tied for third in 1:29.85.
