Box Score BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin men's hockey team picked up its third straight win in a 2-0 non-conference matchup against Southern Maine on Tuesday evening.
The Polar Bears climb to 7-11-0, while dropping the Huskies to 3-11-4.
Game Highlights
- Southern Maine looked to strike early as Conor Ferrera received a feed from the left boards and handled towards Alex Zafonte. The first-year goalie denied Ferrera at the edge of the crease.
- Chris Wallace had a promising look following a breakout pass from Cody Todesco in the waning minutes of the period, but Anthony D'Aloisio deflected the puck away.
- With eight minutes to play in the second period, Bradley Ingersoll led Matthew Lison with a pass out of Bowdoin's zone. Lison skated into a one-on-goal, only to be stonewalled by D'Aloisio.
- A minute later, Sasha Makarov lined up a shot that hit Zafonte square in the numbers from the inside edge of the circle.
- Camil Blanchet attempted a wraparound shot with four minutes to play in the period, with D'Aloisio closing down the gap.
- Bowdoin finally broke through with 3:43 remaining in the frame. Lison collected a loose puck in the left circle and skated across the ice, wristing a shot far post for the 1-0 lead.
- The Huskies fired off a flurry of shots midway through the final frame while on the power play. Zafonte turned away a series of consecutive bids.
- Todesco tallied an empty-netter with 40 seconds remaining as he saucered a shot on net from just outside Bowdoin's blue line.
By the Numbers
- Zafonte earned his fourth shutout of the season with 35 saves. Every win the first-year has recorded in net this season has come in a shutout.
- D'Aloisio recorded 27 saves for the Huskies.
- Southern Maine went 0-for-5 on the power play.
