MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – Karl Sarier won two individual NESCAC titles and the Bowdoin men's swimming and diving team broke ten school records over the course of the three-day NESCAC Championship to secure a sixth place finish.
The eleven team conference meet was hosted by Wesleyan with Williams collecting its 15th consecutive NESCAC title. Amherst took second followed by Tufts, Connecticut College, and Bates. Bowdoin finished sixth with 856 points.
Meet Highlights
- Sarier led the men with an outstanding sophomore campaign, winning both the 200 IM and 200 freestyle. Sarier's time of 1:49.73 in the IM was a new meet and school record, while qualifying as an NCAA B Cut time. Sarier's 200 free rewrote his own school record, lowering the time to 1:38.34. His time of 44.88 in the 100 free landed him in second overall and again lowered his own school record.
- Michael Netto also broke his own school record in the 50 breaststroke, finishing in 25.43 for second place. He repeated the performance in the 100 with a 56.46.
- Julian Abaldo and Will Hutchinson joined Sarier and Netto for a record setting 400 medley relay. The quartet landed in sixth place with a 3:24.35.
- Stephen Pastoriza tied the school record set by Ryan Kulesza '15 in the 400 IM. The two now share the title at 4:03.38, a time that won Pastoriza the pre-consolation final by nearly ten seconds.
- In the 1650, Daniel Williams finished fifth overall (16:12.44) and lowered teammate Timothy Long's previous record (16:13.44).
- Andrew Macdonald, Cameron Chertavian, Killian Dickson, and Sarier finished eighth in the 800 free relay, besting the previous record by over a full second by turning in a 6:58.00.
- The 400 free relay also lowered the Polar Bear mark with a 3:04.57 for sixth place. Abaldo, Macdonald, Hutchinson, and Sarier combined for the record.
- Mitchell Ryan continued his season's success with second place finishes on both the 1-meter (460.50) and 3-meter (511.25) boards.
