Men's Squash Finishes Third in Conroy Cup Divison of Team Nationals

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Bowdoin College men's squash team finished 3rd in the Conroy Cup (D-Division) of the College Squash Association Team National Championships last weekend.

The Polar Bears went 2-1 in their three matches and finish 27th in the nation, ending with an overall record of 6-15 this winter. Bowdoin opened the weekend with a first-round win against Stanford (7-2) before falling to eventual division champ Wesleyan (5-4). Bowdoin rebounded to tip Tufts 6-3 in their final match of the year.

Weekend Highlights

  • Bowdoin cruised against Stanford, winning at the top seven positions to defeat the Cardinal. Sweeps by Sebastian Kim, George Cooley, Tyler Shonrock and Drew Clark at positions 4-7 helped key the win. Hard-fought wins by Ian Squiers (3-1), James Paolella (3-1) and Ben Bristol (3-2) rounded out the triumph.
  • The Polar Bears battled well against Wesleyan in the second round against a team that had defeated them 9-0 just two weeks ago at the NESCAC Championships. Cooley, Shonrock and Clark all earned wins at spots 5-7 and Bristol captured another victory with a tough 3-2 win at #3 for the Polar Bears in the team setback.
  • Bowdoin bounced back against Tufts in their last match of the year, claiming a convincing 6-3 victory. Bristol, Kim, Cooley, Shonrock and Clark each netted wins at positions 3-7. Squiers capped off the victory with a 3-2 comeback win at the top spot.
