MIDDLEBURY, Vt. - The Bowdoin College football team suffered a season-opening 40-3 defeat at the hands of Middlebury on Saturday afternoon at Youngman Field.

The Panthers, who gained 517 yards of total offense in the win, improve to 1-0. Bowdoin drops to 0-1 on the year with the loss.

Game Highlights

• Bowdoin scored on its first possession of the season to take an early 3-0 lead, covering 64 yards on 12 plays and converting on a 33-yard field goal by Andrew Sisti to take the early edge
• That would be it for the Polar Bears, however, as Middlebury would score touchdowns on five of its six first-half possessions to take an insurmountable 34-3 lead at the break
• Jared Lebowitz keyed the offensive attack for the Panthers, going 26-39 for 369 yards passing and five touchdowns while also scoring on a two-yard keeper
• Daniel Wanger jumped off the page for Bowdoin on special teams, blocking three kicks on the day - a field goal and two PAT attempts

• Bowdoin struggled to find their footing offensively, converting 13 first-downs and 194 yards of total offense
• Tim Drakeley went 15-30 passing for 126 yards for Bowdoin while Nate Richam gained 63 yards on 14 carries
• Nick Vailas caught five passes for 66 yards in the loss
•  Defensively, Andrew Joyce had 11 tackles while Latif Armiyaw collected ten stops
