Box Score 2 LEWISTON, Maine – Bowdoin softball completed the series sweep with a pair of wins at Bates on Saturday afternoon.
The Polar Bears (12-7-1, 3-1 NESCAC) captured a 6-3 victory in the opener before pinning an 11-6 setback on the Bobcats (0-26, 0-3 NESCAC) in game two.
Game One Highlights
- Bowdoin jumped out to quick 1-0 lead in the top of the first off a Caroline Rice double that drove in Emily Griffin.
- Emma Stevens cleared the fence for a three-run homer in the top of the third to give the Polar Bears a 4-0 advantage.
- The Bobcats responded with three runs in the bottom half of the inning. Emma Schiller drove in a pair with a double and eventually scored on a passed ball.
- Samantha Valdivia tallied an RBI off a fielder's choice chip to third that drove in Marisa O'Toole.
- Julia Geaumont capped the game with an RBI single in the top of the seventh as the Polar Bears earned the 6-3 victory.
- Samantha Roy earned the win in the circle with four strikeouts and a walk, while allowing five hits. Geaumont pitched the final two innings for a save with one strikeout.
Game Two Highlights
- Griffin began the game with an RBI double in the top of the first, scoring Jordan Gowdy.
- Bates took its first lead of the day with five-runs in the bottom half of the inning. Maddie Inlow tallied a two-run double, followed quickly by RBI singles from Madison Fox and Tori Fitzgerald. Fox later scored on a passed ball.
- The Polar Bears cut into Bates' lead in their next at bat, pushing three runs across the plate. A Lauren O'Shea walk forced Katie Gately home and Gowdy knocked in a pair of runs with a single.
- Karen Lockhart cleared the center field fence for a solo homerun in the second.
- Rice scored in the top of the fourth off a wild pitch and Gately singled through the left side to drive in the tying run.
- Claire McCarthy hit a two-run triple in the sixth to give Bowdoin the lead and Gately added her second RBI of the day with a single through the right side.
- McCarthy again put the ball in play in the seventh, allowing Geaumont to score, and Gately tagged an RBI double to center to conclude the game.
