Box Score 2 BRUNSWICK, Maine – Marisa O'Toole hit a two-run walkoff homerun in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift the Bowdoin softball team to a 4-2 game two in over visiting Trinity on Saturday afternoon.
The Polar Bears (21-15-2, 6-6 NESCAC) fell 3-2 to the Bantams (18-12, 6-6 NESCAC) in game one, but rebounded in the nightcap to capture the series.
Game One Highlights
- Trinity took a quick lead in the top of the first behind an RBI single to center by Courtney Erickson.
- A two-run fourth gave Bowdoin its first lead of the day. Natalie Edwards launched a sacrifice fly to left that evened the game and Samantha Valdivia tagged an RBI single to short that allowed Katie Gately to score.
- The Bantams pushed a pair of runs across the plate in the following inning, beginning with a solo homer off the bat of Erica Merullo. Nicole Towner drove in the eventual game-winner with a single up the middle before Bowdoin could record a third out.
- Rachel Smith earned the win for Trinity going all seven innings with three strikeouts and five hits allowed.
- Julia Geaumont pitched 4.1 innings and allowed six hits with three strikeouts. Samantha Roy completed the game for Bowdoin and tallied three strikeouts with two hits.
Game Two Highlights
- The Bantams went up 2-0 with a pair of solo homers in the second and third innings by Meaghan Race and Elizabeth McQuaid.
- Bowdoin tied the game in the bottom of the fourth. O'Toole tagged and RBI single that drove in Emily Griffin and eventually scored on an Edwards single to left.
- Trinity preserved the 2-2 tie in the bottom of the seventh after recording a third out with Bowdoin runners on second and third.
- With Griffin on base in the bottom of the eight, O'Toole ended the Bowdoin season with a two-run walkoff to left.
- Cassia Armstrong pitched four innings, giving up as many hits, while recording two strikeouts. Rachael Smith closed out the remainder of the game with three hits and as many walks.
- Griffin earned the win, pitching all eight innings, and allowed four hits with two strikeouts.
