Geaumont's Perfect Day at the Plate Propels Softball Past Brandeis

BRUNSWICK, Maine – Julia Geaumont was perfect in six plate appearances, including two homeruns, as the Bowdoin softball team swept Brandeis in a pair of Saturday afternoon games.

The Judges (13-16) jumped out to a three run lead before falling 10-4 in game one. The Polar Bears (16-13-2) secured a 7-2 victory in game two.

Game One Highlights

  • Keri Lehtonen tallied an RBI single to drive in the first Brandeis run of the game in the top of the opening inning. Madison Gagnon drove in Lehtonen with a shot to right center in the following at bat.
  • Gagnon drove in the third Judges run of the game in with another single to center in the third.
  • Bowdoin evened the game in the bottom half of the inning as Geaumont launched a three-run homer over the left field fence. Natalie Edwards gave the Polar Bears a 4-3 lead soon after with an RBI double to right center.
  • Claire McCarthy tallied a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning, driving in Lauren O'Shea, and Caroline Rice followed up with an RBI single. Katie Gately rounded out the inning's scoring with another RBI single.
  • The Judges got one run back in the top of the sixth as Marissa DeLaurentis hit a leadoff single and made her way to third on a pair of wild pitches. Madison Sullivan grounded out to the pitcher, but drove in DeLaurentis for the team's fourth.
  • McCarthy opened the bottom of the inning with a single to left and scored soon after on a double to center by Rice. Geaumont and Samantha Valdivia each tagged RBI singles to round out the inning.
  • Samantha Roy started in the circle for Bowdoin and pitched 5.1 innings, while allowing eight hits and four runs. Geaumont closed out the game and allowed two hits.
  • Sadie-Rose Apfel allowed 11 hits in 3.2 innings of work and gave up seven runs. Melissa Soleimani closed out the game and allowed seven hits and three runs.

Game Two Highlights

  • Bowdoin jumped out to a three run lead in the first inning. Rice and McCarthy each hit RBI singles to go up 2-0. Gately rounded out the scoring with a double that drove in McCarthy.
  • Gagnon put Brandeis on the board in the top of the third with an RBI single.
  • The Polar Bears scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth. Valdivia drove in Marisa O'Toole with a double to left center and eventually scored on an error.
  • Amanda Shore drove in the final Brandeis run in the fifth while grounding out to second.
  • Geaumont tagged her second homerun of the game to begin the bottom of the inning. Valdivia tallied her second RBI double of the day to end the day's scoring.
  • Emily Griffin pitched all seven innings for Bowdoin and tallied one strikeout and three walks, while allowing eight hits.
  • Sarah Petrides allowed nine hits and six runs with one strikeout on the day.
