BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin softball team forced a Saturday split with Colby after taking game two of the doubleheader with a 3-1 final.
The Mules (8-12, 2-4 NESCAC) shut out the Polar Bears (14-11-2, 4-5 NESCAC) in game one with a 3-0 effort.
Game One Highlights
- Colby took the early lead in the top of the second to go up 1-0. With Emily Schatz on base following a leadoff walk, Wiley Holton doubled to drive in the run.
- Holton drove a ball into center field with a pair of runners on base in the fourth, clearing the bases, but was tagged out at second after attempting to advance on the throw. The two runs counted and the Mules secured the 3-0 lead.
- Holton tallied all three Colby RBIs and also earned the win in the circle with a complete game shutout and eight strikeouts.
- Caroline Rice and Ali Miller each had a double for Bowdoin while Claire McCarthy had a pair of stolen bases.
Game Two Highlights
- The Mules scored their lone run of game two in the third inning. Emma Berger hit a leadoff double and advanced to third on the following play. Robin Spofford drove in the run with a groundout to second for the RBI.
- Bowdoin scored its first run of the day in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game. With Katie Gately on second, Nicole Nelson hit an RBI single to left to even the score.
- The Polar Bears took a 3-1 lead in the following inning following back-to-back singles by Emily Griffin and Claire McCarthy. The pair scored off a double by Rice.
- Julia Geaumont pitched all seven innings for Bowdoin, allowing just four hits. The senior walked one and struck out one.
