Box Score 2 MEDFORD, Mass. – The Bowdoin softball team suffered a NESCAC series sweep at the hands of Tufts following a pair of losses to the Jumbos on Sunday afternoon.
The Polar Bears (12-9-1, 3-3 NESCAC) traveled to Medford for a rescheduled doubleheader against Tufts (13-6, 6-0 NESCAC) following last week's rainout. The Jumbos put up 11 runs in both games, with Bowdoin scoring six in game one and three in game two.
Game One Highlights
- The Jumbos jumped out to a 3-0 lead through the first four innings, scoring in the bottom of the first and two more in the fourth. Christian Cain tallied an RBI single to left to drive in the Jumbos first run and Samantha Sicillano tagged a two-run double in the fourth.
- Bowdoin took the lead with a six-run fifth. Julia Geaumont started the scoring with a three-run double. Samantha Valdivia and Lauren O'Shea each added RBI doubles in the inning. Jordan Gowdy singled to center to drive in Bowdoin's final run.
- With the Polar Bears leading 6-3, Tufts scored eight runs in the sixth inning to put the game out of reach.
Game Two Highlights
- Christina Raso started the scoring in game two with a solo shot to left center in the bottom of the first. Raven Fournier singled to shortstop later in the inning, allowing a runner to score on a Bowdoin error.
- Caroline Rice evened the game with a two-run blast down the right field line.
- Bowdoin took the lead in the fourth off another solo homerun, this time off the bat of Marisa O'Toole.
- Tufts put five runs on the board in the fourth and another four in the following inning to secure the five-inning victory. A two-run homer off Cain's bat punctuated the Jumbos offensive outpouring in the final two innings.
