Box Score 2 CLERMONT, Fla. – The Bowdoin softball team ended its two-week trip to Florida on Friday with a win over Hope and rain-shortened tie against Worcester State.
The Polar Bears will return to Maine at 9-6-1 after opening the day with a 2-0 win against Hope (8-3) and 6-6 tie with Worcester State (4-7-1).
Game One Highlights
- Bowdoin and Hope played six scoreless innings before the Polar Bears scored a pair in the top of the seventh.
- Claire McCarthy and Lauren O'Shea hit back-to-back homeruns, both to left field, to account for the game's only scoring.
- Marisa O'Toole tagged a double in the first inning, accounting for the only other extra-base hit for Bowdoin.
- Julia Geamont pitched all seven innings for the Polar Bears with a single walk and two strikeouts. The senior allowed four hits.
Game Two Highlights
- Sydney Despres gave Worcester State an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first off an RBI single through the left side.
- Bowdoin responded with a pair of singles by O'Toole and Samantha Valdivia to take the lead.
- Despres homered to left in the fourth, tying the game.
- Worcester State took its second lead of the night in the top of the fifth with four more runs. Hayley Terry drove in two runs off a double through the right side while Despres drove in her third run of the day with a single. Sara Pelletier's only hit of the day also pushed a runner across the plate.
- The Polar Bears responded with a four-run fifth of their own. O'Toole hit a two-run homer to left field. Valdivia and Geaumont each tagged RBI doubles to even the score.
- The game ended as a 6-6 tie in the sixth as weather forced the game's conclusion.
- Emily Griffin pitched four innings and allowed nine hits with two strikeouts. Geaumont closed out the day with two innings of shutout work.
