Box Score 2 CLERMONT, Fla. – The Bowdoin softball team rebounded from an opening shutout against Luther to defeat Grinnell in five innings on Thursday afternoon.
The Polar Bears are 8-6 heading into their final day of Florida play. Luther (16-1) shutout Bowdoin 9-0, while the Polar Bears responded with an 8-0 shutout against Grinnell (4-3).
Game One Highlights
- Bowdoin mustered just two hits against Luther in seven innings of action. Marisa O'Toole tallied the first hit of the day with a single in the third and Katie Gately added another single in the fourth.
- Luther went up 1-0 in the second off a sacrifice fly and added three more runs in the following inning.
- Carli Radil drove in a pair of runs in the sixth to extend the Norse lead to 6-0. Luther pushed three more across the plate in the final inning. Paige Lobdell hit an RBI single and Miranda McCay tagged a two-run triple.
- Samantha Bratland struck out ten Bowdoin batters and walked three for the win.
Game Two Highlights
- Bowdoin jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first against Grinnell.
- Julia Geaumont pushed the first run across the plate as she grounded out to short. Gately followed with an RBI double to center that drove in O'Toole.
- The Polar Bears exploded for six runs in the fourth inning, stringing together six consecutive hits before Grinnell could secure a second out.
- Samantha Valdivia tagged an RBI single to get the scoring started. Emma Stevens tallied an RBI double while Lauren O'Shea added a two-run double. O'Toole drove in a pair of runs off a single to center before the Pioneers forced out number three.
- Geaumont pitched four innings with two strikeouts and as many walks. The senior allowed three hits. Samantha Roy closed out the game with one inning of work with a strikeout and walk.
