Box Score 2 CLERMONT, Fla. – The Bowdoin softball team captured a non-NESCAC victory over Hamilton on Monday evening before falling in a five-inning contest to St. Catherine.
The Polar Bears are 6-4 with six games remaining in their southern series. Bowdoin broke a three-game win streak for the Continentals (5-8) with a 9-4 win, but failed to spoil St. Catherine's undefeated season (8-0) after falling 9-0.
Game One Highlights
- Bowdoin jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead in the top of the first, beginning with an Emily Griffin run. Caroline Rice doubled the Polar Bears lead following another Hamilton error.
- Samantha Valdivia pushed another run across the plate with a sacrifice fly to center, giving Bowdoin a 3-0 lead. Claire McCarthy rounded out the first inning with an RBI single to left.
- Neither team would score again until the top of the fifth as Katie Gately knocked an RBI triple to left.
- Jordan Gowdy drove in Bowdoin's sixth run of the game off a single to left.
- Bowdoin tallied its final three runs in the following inning as a bases loaded walk allowed Gately to score. McCarthy followed with a bases loaded single to right that drove in a pair of runners.
- Hamilton rallied late with a four run seventh. Hannah Staab got the inning going with an RBI single to center. Ashleah Yzaguirre immediately followed with another single to center, doubling the Continentals run tally.
- Ursula Castiblanco blasted a two-run double to conclude Hamilton's scoring for the day, ending the game at 9-4.
- Julia Geamont went all seven innings in the circle for Bowdoin. The senior threw 95 pitches with seven strikeouts and a walk.
Game Two Highlights
- St. Catherine took a quick 4-0 lead in the top of the first with an RBI double by Ashley Sis and three-run homer off the bat of Megan Lindenfelser.
- Sammie Galvez added to the Wildcats lead with a two-run single in the second. Another double and single in the following inning scored two more runs, with St. Catherine leading Bowdoin 8-0.
- The Wildcats scored in all but the fifth inning, taking the game 9-0.
- Kirsta Flugstad shutout Bowdoin in five innings of work. Flugstad tallied 10 strikeouts and allowed four hits.
- Marisa O'Toole led the Bowdoin offense with a double in the second.
