Men's Squash Edged in Two Close Matches at CSA Nationals

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Bowdoin College men's squash team finished 24th in the nation following a competitive weekend at the Summers Cup Division of the College Squash Association National Tournament.

The Polar Bears lost a trio of matches, two by a single point, and finish the year with a record of 6-17. Bowdoin dropped its opening round match to Williams (9-0), fell to Amherst in the consolation round (5-4) and then was tipped by Hobart in the 23rd-place match (5-4).

Weekend Highlights

  • Matthew Cooper (#2) and Sam Ward (#9) both earned three-game sweeps in the match against Amherst
  • George Cooley (#5) took a 3-1 decision, as did Cyrus Nassikas (#8)
  • The match came down to a five-gamer at number four, where Amherst's Cameron Bahadori edged Alex Reisley, 3-2 (4-11, 11-3, 13-11, 9-11, 11-8)
  • Cooper, Ward and Nassikas all repeated their winning efforts in the match against Hobart with Ward and Nassikas taking 3-0 sweeps and Cooper earning a 3-1 decision
  • Ben Bristol also earned a point for Bowdoin, taking a 3-0 win at #3
  • The Statesmen pulled out the win at #7 as a dramatic comeback by Divine Wing tipped Sebastian Kim in a five-gamer (10-12, 7-11, 11-6, 11-5, 11-9)

  • The Polar Bears will learn next week if they have any qualifiers for the CSA Individual National Tournament which will begin on March 4
