Women's Basketball Shatters Three-Point Mark In Regular Season Opener

LEWISTON, Maine - The Bowdoin College women's basketball team netted a school-record 15 three-pointers en route to a 92-58 victory over Norwich in its regular season opener on Saturday afternoon at Bates College.

The Polar Bears (1-0) broke the previous mark of 12 set against Husson in 2005. Norwich falls to 1-2 this season with the setback.

Game Highlights

  • After a fairly tight first quarter that saw Bowdoin hold a 21-15 lead after ten minutes, the Polar Bears made it a rout with 35-point outburst in the second quarter.
  • Bowdoin went 7-9 from three-point range in the period, including a 3-3 effort from Lauren Petit
  • The Polar Bears rolled off a pair of 10-0 runs in the frame and carried a 56-31 lead into the break
  • Bowdoin led by as many as 35 points in the second half on their way to the 34-point victory.

  • Bowdoin connected on 43.5% (30-69) for the contest and went 15-39 (38.5%) from long distance.
  • Norwich hit on 43.6% (17-39) but couldn't handle Bowdoin's pressure, committing 32 turnovers in the loss. Bowdoin committed just nine turnovers in the contest. As a result, Bowdoin held a 44-8 edge in points off turnovers.
  • Bowdoin's bench scored 72 points, led by a game-high 17 from Petit, who hit on 5-6 from three-point range. Taylor Choate added 14 for the Polar Bears.
  • The Polar Bears had 14 different players score in the win.
  • Kayla Mercer led Norwich with 15 points in the loss.
