Panthers Produce Four Goals to Down Women's Hockey

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – The Bowdoin women's ice hockey team suffered a second setback at the hands of Middlebury as the Panthers came away with a 4-2 victory on Saturday afternoon.

The seventh-ranked Panthers improve to 9-3-3 (5-0-3 NESCAC) after sweeping the weekend series. Bowdoin sits at 6-7-1 and 3-4-0 in NESAC play. 

Game Highlights

  • Middlebury broke through off a Bowdoin turnover in the defensive zone. Anna Van Kula collected a loose puck at the blueline and directed a pass towards Shanna Hickman. Hickman poked the puck through for the 1-0 lead at 13:10.
  • Miranda Bell evened the game with under five minutes to play in the second period. Bell collected the puck in Bowdoin's end and skated up the right side boards before driving for the crease. She snuck a backhander inside the far post.
  • Maureen Greason nearly added another for the Polar Bears as she collected the puck off a bounce, but was denied by Marisa Dreher.
  • The Panthers regained the lead late in the middle frame off a tip by Maddie Winslow.
  • Leading 2-1 in the final period, Middlebury added two more goals off the stick of Jessica Young.
  • Jessica Bowen cut into the Panthers' lead with 21 seconds remaining as she redirected a rebound.

By the Numbers

  • Lan Crofton ended the day with 28 saves
  • Dreher had 12 stops
  • Bowdoin went 0-for-1 on the power play
  • Middlebury was 0-for-3 with the extra skater
