Petit Ties Three-Pointers Record as Women's Hoops Gives Shibles 300th Win

NORTHFIELD, Vt. - The Bowdoin College women's basketball team enjoyed a historic evening on Thursday as the Polar Bears defeated Norwich University 83-49.

Sophomore guard Lauren Petit tied a school record for three-pointers in the victory that gave head coach Adrienne Shibles her 300th career win. Bowdoin improved to 11-4 with the win while the Cadets fall to 8-7 this season.

Petit For Three

  • Petit connected on the first seven three-pointers she tried to tie the record set last year by Sara Binkhorst '15
  • En route to a game-high 24 points, Petit had hit nine three pointers this season entering Thursday night's game

300th Victory

  • Adrienne Shibles earned her 300th coaching victory with Thursday's win, giving her 162 at Bowdoin after her 138 at Swarthmore
  • In her eighth year at Bowdoin, Shibles owns a 162-52 record (.757) since arriving in Brunswick in 2008

Game Highlights

  • Despite the final score, it was Norwich who came out firing, jumping to an early 8-0  lead thanks to eight straight points from Shyann Josler
  • Bowdoin stormed back and closed the first quarter on a 17-2 run, taking the lead for good on a Marle Curle three-pointer
  • Petit single-handedly put the game out of reach in the second quarter, hitting on four three-pointers and sparking a 27-point period for Bowdoin
  • The Polar Bears led 44-23 at halftime and continued to pour it on in the third quarter as Petit nailed three more from long distance
  • Bowdoin would lead by as many as 37 points en route to the win

By The Numbers

  • Petit finished with a game-high 24 points in just 19 minutes, while  also  collecting four rebounds and making three steals
  • Shannon Brady scored 10 points and grabbed seven rebounds while Curle led Bowdoin with five assists and Abigail Kelly led the squad with eight rebounds
  • Taylor Choate and Cordelia Stewart added to a 59-point effort by the Bowdoin bench with eight points each
  • Josler led Norwich with 16 points in the loss while Heather LeBlanc led all players with 12 rebounds for the Cadets
