Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

LEWISTON, Maine – The Bowdoin softball team secured a pair of NESCAC wins on Tuesday afternoon against Bates with 4-1 and 5-2 finishes behind complete game performances by Julia Geaumont and Emily Griffin in the circle.

The Bobcats (1-12, 0-7 NESCAC) collected 15 hits to Bowdoin's (14-5, 3-0 NESCAC) 12 in the two games, but lacked the clutch hit, leaving 17 players on base in both games.

Game One Recap - Bowdoin 4, Bates 1

Brenna Callahan threw the complete game for Bates, allowing four hits and four runs in six innings while striking out one. Geaumont picked up the win for Bowdoin, striking out six while scattering seven hits over seven innings and allowing one earned run. Geaumont helped her own cause in the bottom of the first, hitting a two-out home run over the left field fence to give Bowdoin the early 1-0 lead.

The Bobcats threatened in the second, with Kira Shaikh beating out a bunt to the pitcher to start things off. Paige Ahlholm hit a one out single to right, putting runners on first and second with one out. But Geaumont retired the next two batters to end the threat.

Bowdoin added to the lead in the bottom of the fifth, scoring a pair of runs on an RBI double from Adriane Krul that scored Claire McCarthy and Lauren O'Shea. The Bobcats got on the board in the sixth off the bat of Kelsey Freedman, who doubled to left.

Schiller had the only multi-hit game for Bates in game one, going 2-4 with a run scored. Geaumont had the only multi-hit game for Bowdoin, with a 2-3 performance and an RBI.

Game Two Recap - Bowdoin 5, Bates 2

Freedman tossed the complete game for Bates, allowing five runs on eight hits while striking out a pair. Griffin threw all seven innings for Bowdoin, allowing two runs on eight hits while striking out nine.

The Polar Bears took the early lead in the nightcap when Adriane Krul doubled to center, stole third, and came home when Griffin grounded out to second, giving Bowdoin the 1-0 lead after one.

The Bobcats threatened to even the score in the top of the third, as Maddie Inlow and Jenney Abbott started the frame with back to back singles. Griffin retired the next two batters before ending the inning with a strikeout.

Freedman held Bowdoin scoreless in the second and third, but Marisa O'Toole added to the Polar Bear's lead when she knocked a two run homer to right center field to give Bowdoin the 3-0 advantage after four innings. Bowdoin added a pair of runs in the bottom of five on a pinch-hit RBI double from Alana Luzzio and an RBI single from Geaumont.

Bates mounted a substantial threat in the top of the sixth with Kira Shaikh starting the frame with a single to right field. Paige Ahlholm drew a walk and Inlow laced a single up the middle to score Shaikh. Abbott connected on her second single of the day to load the bases, but Griffin induced two fly outs to leave the bases loaded. Bates added another run in the seventh, but could not complete a comeback.

The Polar Bears will return to action tomorrow as they face the University of Southern Maine in a doubleheader at St. Joseph's College in Standish beginning at 3:30. Additionally, due to unplayable conditions at Pickard Field, this weekend's NESCAC East Division Series against Tufts has been moved to Medford, Mass. The teams will play a single game at 4:00 p.m. Friday and a twinbill on Saturday at noon.
