Softball Secures Playoff Bid with Game Two Shutout Against Colby

WATERVILLE, Maine – Julia Geaumont pitched a 3-0 shutout in Saturday's second game against Colby as the Bowdoin softball team clinched a playoff spot despite dropping Saturday's opener 1-0.

Bowdoin moves to 21-10 overall with an 8-3 record in conference play. Today's loss was the first NESCAC East loss of the season for the Polar Bears to a team other than Tufts. The Mules fall to 10-15 on the season with a 3-5 mark in league play. Bowdoin has one conference game remaining.

Game One Recap- Colby 1, Bowdoin 0

Megan Michie turned in a complete game in the circle for Colby, allowing four hits and two walks. Emily Griffin pitched all seven innings of the opening game as she gave up just three hits while fanning two.

The Mules capitalized on a timely two-out single to center to drive home the game's only run. Skylar Labbe reached first on a walk and quickly moved to second on a groundout by Kathleen Mason. The first-year came around to score on Erica Pulford's shot to center before Bowdoin finally ended the inning, now trailing 1-0. Two of Bowdoin's four hits against Michie came off the bat of Marisa O'Toole

Game Two Recap- Bowdoin 3, Colby 1

After being kept off the scoreboard in game one, Bowdoin jumped out to an early first-inning lead. Cielle Collins got the offense going with a single to left and advanced to second on a two-out single by Geaumont. Jordan Gowdy drove in Collins from second with another base hit. 

Adriane Krul tagged a one-out double in the top of the fourth and came around to score on a Collins RBI double. The extra-base hits continued to drive in runs for the Polar Bears as Lauren O'Shea's two-out shot drove in Claire McCarthy all the way from first.

Collins went 4 for 4 at the plate and Katie Gately tallied three hits in the win. Krul also collected a pair of hits. Geaumont allowed five hits with as many strikeouts in her outing against Colby. The junior walked one.

Bowdoin plays a triple header on Sunday beginning at 12:00 p.m. against Tufts. The Polar Bears conclude league play against the Jumbos and then continue with a non-conference doubleheader against UMaine-Farmington.
