Box Score 2 CLERMONT, Fla. – Julia Geaumont and Alana Luzzio pitched the Bowdoin women's softball team to a pair of Monday morning wins against Babson (7-5) and Plymouth State (9-3).
The Polar Bears improve to 7-3, stringing together three consecutive victories, as the team is just over halfway finished with its Spring Break schedule.
Opening the day against Babson, Bowdoin put three runs on the board early to jump out to a 3-0 lead after the first inning. Adriane Krul, Emily Griffin and Geaumont all singled to fill the bases at the top of the order, with Krul scoring off Geaumont's shot to center. Katie Gately drove Griffin home with a double to center and eventually crossed home plate herself after Nicole Nelson put the ball in play. The Beavers got one back in the top of the second, scoring on a passed ball, but Bowdoin extended its lead once again in the third. Victoria Rusch tallied an RBI single to left, allowing Cielle Collins to score following a leadoff walk. Emma Stevens opened the fourth with another leadoff walk, coming around to score off Geaumont's double in the next at bat. Bowdoin held its 6-1 lead until the top of the sixth as the Beavers pulled within one after knocking in four more runs. Bowdoin once again responded with another run in the bottom half as Griffin scored from third on a passed ball. Geaumont retired the side in order to close out the game. The junior pitched all seven innings with four strikeouts, allowing six hits and no earned runs.
Once again the Polar Bears jumped out to an early lead in the first, putting up five runs against Plymouth State. Collins and Marisa O'Toole knocked in a run each, off a single and double respectively, before Lauren O'Shea tagged her first collegiate homerun giving Bowdoin the 5-0 lead. O'Toole sent Gately home in the third with a single to center, as the Panthers finally broke through with a run in the bottom half. Back-to-back doubles by Luzzio and Jordan Gowdy pushed Bowdoin to a 7-1 lead, before Griffin pushed Gowdy across the plate with a single to third. The Panthers chipped away, cutting the score to 8-3 in the bottom half of the inning, but were unable to close the gap any further. Luzzio's single to center allowed O'Toole to score and close out Bowdoin's offensive output against Plymouth State. At the plate, Luzzio went 3-4 with an RBI whole pitching a complete game with seven strikeouts and no earned runs.
Bowdoin plays a pair of games Tuesday evening against Anderson (Ind.) and Gallaudet.
