Men's Hockey Falls to Connecticut College in 4-1 Friday Night Matchup

Box Score

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Connecticut College men's ice hockey pulled away with a 4-1 win Friday night in a crucial showdown between the two teams tied for fourth in the NESCAC standings.

The Camels (12-9-2, 9-7-1 NESCAC) pull ahead of the Polar Bears (13-7-3, 7-7-3 NESCAC) in conference standings and hand Bowdoin just its second home loss of the season.

The Camels struck early in the first period, 4:15 into action, following a takeaway by Greg Liautaud just inside Bowdoin's blue line. Grabbing the puck away from the Polar Bear defense, Liautaud turned and charged towards Peter Cronin burying a wrister in the top left corner. Bowdoin answered with 4:32 remaining as Zach Kokosa took off with a loose puck from neutral ice. Taking control of the puck at center ice, Kokosa accelerated into the Camels' defensive zone and sent a snapshot over Tom Conlin's right shoulder.

JC Cangelosi handed the Camels their second lead of the evening under two minutes into the middle frame, netting the feed from Joe Birmingham. Drawing the goalie to the left post, Birmingham dished right to Cangelosi who converted on the open net opportunity, as Cronin was unable to adjust in time.  Marc Roper added to the Camels lead, making the score 3-1, burying a slapshot over the glove from the point.

Connecticut continued to put goals on the board with an unassisted shorthanded mark by Tim DiPretoro. Carrying the puck into Bowdoin territory, DiPretoro deked a defender and maneuvered around for a one-on-one with Cronin, depositing the Camels fourth goal of the evening.  With under two minutes remaining, the Polar Bears had a pair of close calls as the puck ricocheted off the pipe twice, but never crossing the goal line.

Conlin made 34 saves in net for the Camels while Cronin stopped 19 for Bowdoin.

The Camels travel to Waterville for a 3:00 p.m. matchup against Colby tomorrow, with the Jumbos coming to Brunswick for a 4:00 p.m. game.
