Swimming & Diving Closes First Semester With Maine State Meet

BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College men's and women's swimming & diving teams both placed third at the 2015 Maine State Meet at Greason Pool last weekend.

The Polar Bear men accumulated 796.5 points to finish ahead of Colby (469) but behind Bates (1044) and Maine-Orono (994.5). The Bowdoin women recorded 697.5 points to finish ahead of the Mules (428) and behind Bates (1203) and Maine-Orono (932.5).

Men's Meet Highlights

  • First-year Karl Sarier had a great day for the Polar Bears, winning the 200 IM (1:55.94) and the 400 IM (4:09.78) for Bowdoin and earned a second-place finish in the 100 freestyle (47.22)
  • The Polar Bear men went 1-2-3 in the 400 IM competition as Stephen Pastoriza (4:11.84) and Daniel Williams (4:19.60) finished right behind Sarier
  • First-year Mitch Ryan won both diving competitions for Bowdoin, totaling 238.65 in the one-meter and 238.0 in the three-meter
  • Runner-up finishes included Williams in the 500 freestyle (4:48.28) and the 200 freestyle relay team of Logan House, Will Hutchinson, John Lagasse and Sarier (1:27.87)

Women's Meet Highlights

  • First-year Sterling Dixon broke the school record in the 200 butterfly, finishing second in a time of 2:08.81, breaking the mark set by Kelsey Goodwin (2:08.92) in 2012. Dixon also earned a second-place finish in the 400 IM (4:38.87)
  • Diver Christine Andersen swept both competitions for Bowdoin, taking first in the one meter (237.6) and three-meter (229.45) events
  • Mariah Rawding was a points machine for the Polar Bears, earning strong finishes in the 200 IM (2nd, 2:11.39), the 50 free (2nd, 25.01), 100 backstroke (3rd, 1:00.53), 200 backstroke (2nd, 2:12.42)
  • Bowdoin's top relay finish was the 400 free relay squad of Dixon, Rawding, Bridget Killian and Lela Garner that took second in a time of 3:40.78

Up Next

  • The teams are off from competition until after the New Year. The Polar Bears will host Bates on January 15 and then the University of Maine on January 16
