Men's Ice Hockey Never Trails in 4-2 Win Over Colby

Box Score

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin men's ice hockey skated away with a 4-2 victory over Colby in the 206th meeting between the two teams on Saturday evening.

The Polar Bears earn their first conference win of the season to improve to 2-4-1 (1-2-1 NESCAC). Bowdoin leads Colby (2-3-1, 1-3-0 NESCAC) in the all-time series with a 109-89-8 record.

Game Highlights

  • Bowdoin bested Emerson Verrier 3:48 into the game as Cody Todesco found Sebastian Foster from behind the net. Austin Ricci started the play with Todesco finally feeding Foster in front for a shot to the top right corner.
  • The Mules evened the game in the tenth minute on a power play goal by Michael Decker. Following a scramble in front of the crease, the puck kicked out high in the slot where Jack Burton collected it. Burton found Decker with a pass to the right and the sophomore one-timed the feed to tying the game.
  • Todesco responded 18 seconds later as he popped the puck up and over Verrier. Foster started the play as he rifled a shot from above the right circle, with Ricci collecting the puck and finding Todesco.
  • Kevin Doherty had a promising look for the Mules midway through the second period as he broke away from his defender only to have Peter Cronin make the stop.
  • Cam MacDonald rang a shot off the post 30 seconds later.
  • With Bowdoin on the power play and pressuring the Colby penalty kill, Verrier made a key kick save on a quick bid by Chris Wallace. Wallace one-timed a shot as the puck transferred to the right side, only to see Verrier extend for the save.
  • Devin Albert broke away from the Mules defensive end for a shorthanded opportunity, skating down the center, directly into a one on goal. Cronin protected the crease and absorbed the shot.
  • Colby came out and quickly tied the game to open the third frame. Albert skated from right to left just outside Bowdoin's crease, between two defenders, and found enough space to beat Cronin at the five-hole.
  • Spencer Antunez gave the Polar Bears their third lead of the evening. The sophomore dug the puck out of the boards on the left side and roofed a shot from the near post.
  • Todesco capped the game with an empty netter off a defensive end clear by Foster.
