Cronin Earns the Shutout as Men's Hockey Ices Beacons

Box Score

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin men's ice hockey team collected its first win of the season with 5-0 shutout over ninth-ranked and previously unbeaten UMass-Boston on Sunday night.

The Polar Bears break into the win column to improve to 1-3-1. The Beacons suffer their first loss of the season and sit at 6-1-1.

Game Highlights

  • Camil Blanchet put Bowdoin on the board 23 seconds into the game off a solo shot from above the left circle. Blanchet's shot was the first of the game.
  • Following an intercepted pass at center ice, Bowdoin moved into the Beacon's defensive end with Mitch Barrington teeing up a shot from the left point. Zach Andrews made the save on Barrington's bid, and again on the rebound shot from Matt Sullivan, before Matthew Melanson followed up with a quick put-away.
  • Bowdoin's final goal of the first period came as Sebastian Foster flipped the puck over Andrews' head, cleaning up an initial shot by Cody Todesco.
  • The most promising opportunity for either team in the second period came midway through the frame on a wrap-around by Frankie DeAugstine.
  • Bowdoin added its fourth goal of the game 2:25 into the final period as Foster stole the puck in the Polar Bears' own defensive zone and skated down the left side into Beacon territory. Foster centered a pass to Todesco just inside the blue line who connected with Austin Ricci in front of the net.
  • The Beacons ramped up the offensive pressure midway through the period, but missed several promising opportunities with Bowdoin's goalie out of position on the power play.
  • Matt Sullivan won a faceoff in the 17th minute and found Bradley Potter on the opposite side of the ice. Potter lofted a floater from outside the blue line and watched his first collegiate goal drift over the shoulder of Billy Faust.

  • Faust ended the day with 19 saves for UMass-Boston.
  • Peter Cronin earned the shutout with a 38 save performance.
