Football Caps Campaign With Dominant Rivalry Win Over Colby

Box Score

BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College football team closed out its 2015 campaign with a resounding 35-13 win over Colby on Saturday at Whittier Field.

The Polar Bears finish their season with a record of 2-6 while the Mules end at 1-7. Saturday was the 127th meeting between the two rivals, the third-longest in Division III football.

How It Happened

  • Colby threatened early, pinning Bowdoin in their own territory for most of the opening quarter. The Mules' best chance to score came following a Will Caffey interception that put Colby at the Bowdoin 10, but the Mules could not covert the chance into points, failing on a fourth down from the 3 yard-line.
  • Bowdoin got on the board with a 12-play, 49-yard drive that resulted in an Andrew Sisti 27-yard field goal remaining in the second quarter
  • After a Colby three-and-out Bowdoin then marched 63 yards in six plays, with Tim Drakeley finding Nick Vailas on the left sideline for a 40-yard touchdown strike. Vailas tiptoed the sideline for the final 10 yards to paydirt.
  • Sisti hit a 30-yard field goal at the gun before halftime to give the Polar Bears a 13-0 lead at intermission
  • The Polar Bear defense shut the Mules out on their first possession of the second half and then covered 75 yards in seven plays with Drakeley connecting with Bryan Porter (22 yard pass) and Jake Rourke (26 yard pass) for big plays
  • Rourke plunged one yard into the endzone to cap the drive and give Bowdoin a 20-0 lead
  • Colby cut into Bowdoin's lead later in the quarter as Gabe Harrington found Alex Kramer wide open over the middle to end a nine-play 91-yard drive and trim the score to 20-7
  • Bowdoin replied with a touchdown early in the fourth quarter to regain some space as Vailas took a Drakeley pass over the middle, spun out of a tackled and raced into the endzone for a 36-yard touchdown and a 27-7 lead
  • Colby tried to climb back into the contest with an 80-yard touchdown drive that saw Jabari Hurdle-Price dive into the endzone from one yard out, but Jibrail Coy blocked the PAT for Bowdoin and Cameron Rondeau scooped it up and returned it for a two-point conversion to keep it a three-score game.
  • Bowdoin added a late touchdown from Drakeley to Porter from 30 yards out to close out the scoring
