Box Score NEW LONDON, Conn. – Following the teams' four-goal outburst in the opening half, the Bowdoin women's soccer team held on for a 3-2 win over Connecticut College to clinch a home NESCAC Quarterfinal.
The Polar Bears (9-4-1, 6-3-0 NESCAC) secured a top four finish in the NESCAC regular season standings by avenging last year's semifinal loss to the Camels (3-7-3. 0-5-3 NESCAC) on Saturday afternoon.
How It Happened
- Bowdoin went ahead 2-0 with a pair of unassisted Jamie Hofstetter goals in the 9th and 22nd minute. Hofstetter's first mark of the game came as she headed a ball to put the Polar Bears on the board. The senior doubled Bowdoin's lead with a shot from 18 yards out just over ten minutes later.
- Connecticut College broke through with 13 minutes remaining as Alex Baltazar finished off a through ball feed from Michelle Medina to cut Bowdoin's lead in half.
- Ellie Zak scored Bowdoin's eventual game-winner with nine minutes remaining in the first half, collecting a rebound off a free kick and extending Bowdoin's lead.
- The Camels pulled within one in the 61st minute off an unassisted 18-yard shot from Lauren Steele.
- Bowdoin's Bridget McCarthy ended the game with four saves, while Bryanna Montalvo stopped four shots for Connecticut.
- Bowdoin outshot their hosts by a slight 8-6 margin, as both teams earned three corner kicks.
