Squash Teams Split Against Colby in Sunday Afternoon Play

BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College men's and women's squash teams split against rival Colby on Sunday at the Lubin Center with the women earning a 5-4 victory and the men dropping a 5-4 decision to the Mules.

The Polar Bear women had a quartet of 3-0 victors in the win over Colby as Alden Drake (#3), Diya Chopra (#5), Emily Simonton (#7), and Alex Moreno (#8) all earned shutout wins. Sara Wlodarczyk was challenged in a 3-1 win at #4 that proved to be the difference.

The men's team controlled the bottom of the ladder against Colby, as Cyrus Nassikas (3-0 at #7), George Cooley (3-1 at #8) and Michael DeFranco (3-0 at #9) accounted for three of Bowdoin's points against the Mules. Andrew Ward put Bowdoin on the brink with a hard-fought 3-2 win at #4 as the match came down to the #1 position. Matt Cooper battled with Colby's William McBrian, but succumbed in a 3-2 loss as Colby claimed the win.

Both teams suffered 9-0 setbacks on Saturday at Brown as the women now stand at 5-8 this winter while the men own a 1-11 record.

The Polar Bears will return to action on Friday as they will travel to Bates in a rescheduled contest from December 3. Both matches will begin at 5:00 p.m.
