Men's Hockey Outshoots Williams But Falls Short in Conference Action

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass- Propelled by three goals in the opening period, the Williams men's ice hockey team defeated Bowdoin 5-2 on Saturday evening.

The Ephs improve to 11-3-2 (7-2-1 NESCAC), while dropping the Polar Beras to 9-5-3 (4-5-3 NESCAC). 

Williams ultimately went 2-for-5 on the power play, getting the game's scoring started at 9:23 off a shot by Greg Johnson. The Ephs scored again forty seconds later as C.J. Shugart tipped the puck in off a shot by Zander Masucci. David Italiano added to the Ephs total off a cross-ice pass from Craig Kitto that materialized in a two on one breakaway. Bowdoin broke through and answered one minute later on the power play as Connor Quinn fired a shot past Sean Dougherty to push the score to 3-1.

The third period opened with a quick goal by Williams to go ahead 4-1, as Frankie Mork wristed a shot from the left side. The Ephs converted again on the power play after Alex Gonye combined with David Jarrett and Italiano in an odd man rush. Bowdoin knocked in its second of the game with less than three minutes remaining, off another man-up opportunity. Shooting through traffic, Spencer Altunez converted to make the score 5-2.

Max Fenkell finished the game with 22 saves for Bowdoin. Sean Dougherty made 27 stops on the opposite side for Williams.

Bowdoin returns home for a midweek matchup against Southern Maine at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
