Box Score BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin women's soccer team collected its fifth consecutive win, a 4-0 home victory over UMaine-Farmington, equaling its best start since 2003.
The 19th ranked Polar Bears improve to 5-0-0 with their second win in as many days. The Beavers fall to 1-4 overall following Bowdoin's shutout. The Polar Bears extend their series lead over Farmington to 6-0-0 all-time.
Kiersten Turner put the Polar Bears on the board just 6:03 into the contest. Brigit Bergin streaked down the left side lofting a cross just inside the box to Turner who collected the ball and beat Farmington's Sam Hatch to put Bowdoin on top 1-0. The Polar Bears doubled their lead just 1:10 later off the foot of Amanda Kinneston. Carrying the ball from the left corner, Kinneston dribbled along the end line and bested Hatch with an off-speed ball that snuck in behind the keeper.
Kinneston set up Julia Bottone for the Polar Bears third goal of the game. Beating a pair of defenders down the right side and driving towards the end line, she passed up to Battone on the doorstep, who chipped a shot over the head of a charging Hatch with 17:30 remaining in the half. Jill Rathke netted her first collegiate goal in 42nd minute to round out Bowdoin's scoring. Set up about 25 yards out on the right, Rathke lofted a shot to the opposite corner as Bowdoin took the 4-0 lead.
Hatch tallied 9 saves in a complete game performance for the Beavers. Bridget McCarthy started in net for Bowdoin, playing just over 31 minutes, before giving way to Rachel Stout in her first Polar Bear appearance. Bowdoin outshot the visitors 22-0 and held a 16-0 edge in corner kicks.
The Polar Bears host the University of New England on Wednesday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. The Beavers continue their road stretch with a Saturday conference matchup at Green Mountain College (3:30 p.m.).
