Box Score STANDISH, Maine - The Bowdoin College softball team scored the first seven runs of the game en route to a 9-1 non-conference win over the University of Southern Maine on Wednesday in a game played at Saint Joseph's College.
The Polar Bears improve to 13-6 with their third-straight win. The Huskies fall to 7-12 following their third-straight loss.
Bowdoin was able to take advantage of six USM errors to earn the six-inning victory. Eight different players had hits for the Polar Bears, as both Katie Gately and Julia Geaumont blasted home runs in the victory.
The Polar Bears plated a pair of runs in the first inning, keyed by a triple from Emily Griffin and scored single runs in both the second and third frames to up their lead to 4-0. Bowdoin put the game out of reach with three runs in the fourth, as Gately's two-run shot made it a 7-0 game.
Amanda Hendrickson accounted for the lone Southern Maine RBI, singling home Allison Pillar in the fifth.
Alana Luzzio earned the win in the circle, permitting just two hits over three frames. Emily Griffin went two innings, allowing three hits and an unearned run while Geaumont tossed one frame in relief.
Stefanie Stockwell was charged with the loss for Southern Maine after allowing five runs - four earned - over three innings of work.
The Polar Bears will return to action on Friday when they host Colby at 4:00 p.m. Southern Maine will play a doubleheader at home against Husson on Thursday beginning at 3:30 p.m.
