Softball Sweeps Saturday Series Against Bantams

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

HARTFORD, Conn. – The Bowdoin softball team's offense continued to roll as the Polar Bears swept Saturday's doubleheader at Trinity.

Adriane Krul went 2 for 4 with a pair of RBIS in Bowdoin's 10-4 opening win against the Bantams. She connected in all three at-bats during the team's 5-1 victory in the second contest. Bowdoin is now 12-6 on the season with a 2-1 mark in NESCAC action. Trinity falls to 5-13 overall (3-2 NESCAC).

The Bantams jumped out to an early lead in the first inning off a two-run triple by Abigail Ostrom, but the Polar Bears were able to grab a permanent lead in the bottom of the second inning. Dimitria Spathakis, Tracy Shirey, and Krul all collected RBI singles as Nicole Nelson tallied a two-run double. Bowdoin doubled its run total in the following inning, capitalizing on a Bantam error to break the ice. Krul connected for a run scoring double followed by an RBI single from Emily Griffin. Hanna Wurgaft rounded out the team's scoring with a two run single before the inning would end. Trinity took back a pair in the fifth with Ostrom and Erica Correa each driving in runs with extra base hits.  Both team were held scoreless through the final two innings of action. Griffin pitched all seven innings for the Polar Bears allowing four runs off nine hits, while striking out four.

The Bowdoin bats continued to produce, as the Polar Bears put runs on the board in four out of six innings at bat. Nelson opened the game with an RBI single, allowing Krul score from second. A double off the bat of Griffin provided the Polar Bears with another run, quickly followed by an RBI single from Katie Gately. Bowdoin went silent until Nelson drove home another run in the fourth, and Wurgaft capped the day with an RBI single in the sixth. Trinity finally broke through Melissa DellaTorre's shutout in the final inning, with Olivia Berry doubling to drive home an unearned run. DellaTorre pitched all seven innings for Bowdoin retiring the side in order several times, and only facing a total of 27 batters. The senior allowed just three hits while tallying as many strikeouts.

Bowdoin's upcoming schedule is still dependent on conditions at Pickard Field. An update on next weeks scheduled home games will be posted on Monday.
