Box Score BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Tufts softball team completed a perfect regular season in conference play by downing Bowdoin 5-0 on Sunday morning.
The Jumbos (32-3) completed their third consecutive 12-0 season in NESCAC East action. Bowdoin falls to 20-12 (6-4 NESCAC) following the loss.
Jo Clair put Tufts on the board in the bottom of the first with a two-run blast to right center. Clair looked to add to the team's total in the third. Taking the jump from second the Jumbos' catcher headed home on a Gracie Marshall single to left field, but Bowdoin's Cielle Collins quickly fielded the ball and gunned Clair out at the plate to end the inning. Tufts pushed three more runs across in the fifth, capitalizing on four consecutive two-out singles. Gracie Marshall collected an RBI single followed immediately by another from Summer Horowitz. The Jumbos tacked on their third of the inning off a passed ball.
Allyson Fournier continued her perfect season, improving to 14-0, with 12 strikeouts against Bowdoin. Fournier leads the conference in ERA, wins, and strikeouts. The junior pitcher gave up one walk and four hits in seven innings of work. Emily Griffin started in the circle for Bowdoin, allowing eight hits and two walks with four K's.
Bowdoin plays Bates in a rescheduled doubleheader this afternoon beginning at 3:00 p.m. Tufts hosts MIT and Wheaton on Tuesday starting at 3:00 p.m.
