The Polar Bears came right back with a three-run fourth, taking advantage of some fielding missteps by the Nor'Easters to score a pair. Nicole Nelson drove a sacrifice fly out to centerfield, allowing Adriane Krul to score from third, to account for the inning's final run. Bowdoin escaped a two out bases loaded situation in the bottom of the fourth as Melissa DellaTorre struck out the batter to end the inning. Cielle Collins tripled to right center in the top of the fifth, followed immediately by an RBI single from Alana Luzzio. Luzzio scored on the next play to take the 6-0 lead. Both offenses were quiet through the opening three innings of play, before Bowdoin would break through. Katie Gately led of the fourth with a double down the leftfield line, eventually scoring off a double from Dimitria Spathakis to left center. Spathakis earned her second RBI of the game as she drove in Luzzio with a single to right field. The Nor'Easters put their first run of the day on the board in the bottom half of the inning, as Kelly Murphy grounded out to the pitcher allowing a run to score from third. UNE scored the equalizer and go-ahead runs in the bottom of the seventh after back to back singles put runners in scoring position. Allie Frazier knocked a no-out single to the left side, allowing both runs to score and end the game. Emily Griffin pitched a complete game for Bowdoin, allowing six hits and one walk. Griffin and UNE's Katelyn Austin each tallied four strikeouts in the game.
Bowdoin returns home for the opening game of a three-game series against Bates on Friday. The Polar Bears and Bobcats will play at Pickard Field beginning at 4:00 p.m., followed by a doubleheader on Saturday in Lewiston.
