Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Bowdoin softball team closed out spring break by splitting a pair of close one-run games Friday afternoon after beginning the day with a comfortable 7-4 win.

The Polar Bears return to Maine with a 10-5 record. Bowdoin opened with a 7-4 win over Worcester State, followed by a 9-8 against Buffalo State before falling 5-4 to Western Connecticut.

Emily Griffin led the team against Worcester, pitching a complete game while racking up six strikeouts and allowing as many hits. Griffin also led the team at the plate, collecting two RBIs off three hits off a pair of singles and a triple. The Lancers took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second, but Bowdoin came back with a six run third. The Polar Bears pushed runners across as Marissa O'Toole tallied an RBI double, Katie Gately hit a sacrifice fly, Alana Luzzio collected an RBI single, and Griffin's two-run triple.  Bowdoin added one more run in the final inning after Griffin reached first on a leadoff bunt and Hanna Wurgaft sent her home on a single to left.

Bowdoin turned around for a tight 9-8 comeback win over Buffalo State in its second game of the day. The Polar Bears took the lead in the seventh inning and held on for the victory, going up for good on a two-run single by Adriane Krul that scored Tracy Shirey and Sienna Mitman. Luzzio cranked up a three run double in the fifth. Luzzio started in the circle for Bowdoin, going 5 2/3 innings before giving way to Julia Geaumont to close out the game.

Despite an early lead in their last game, the Bowdoin softball team was unable to hold off a large charge by Western Connecticut State. A double by Krul sparked the Bowdoin bats, with Griffin singling to advance the leadoff runner, followed by and RBI single by Wurgaft. Gately tallied an RBI single, while Wurgaft scored on an error. Bowdoin mustered only one more run in the game, coming off an RBI double from Casey Correa. Western Connecticut posted one run in each of the second, sixth, and seventh innings to climb back into the game. Western Connecticut took the game with a solo home run in the seventh. Melissa DellaTorre pitched for Bowdoin allowing five runs off seven hits with three strikeouts and four walks.

Bowdoin returns to New England to commence NESCAC play with a three game series at Tufts beginning on March 28 at 4:00 p.m.
