Pitchers Lead Softball to 2-0 Outing on Thursday

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

CLERMONT, Fla. – Julia Geaumont and Melissa DellaTorre led the Bowdoin softball team to a pair of victories Thursday morning.

The Polar Bears improved to 8-4 on the season, following a 5-1 win over SUNY Geneseo and 15-0 shutout victory against Western New England.

Bowdoin's pitchers were dominant in both outings. Geaumont faced the Knights, striking out two while allowing just one earned run off five hits. The sophomore pitcher also added some offensive aid with three RBIs off a second inning single and double in the fifth. DellaTorre kept Western New England off the board in the second game, pitching five shutout innings with just two hits and five strikeouts. She faced just 17 batters.

The Knights scored their lone run of the first game in the opening inning, capitalizing on an RBI double by Sam Trapasso. Bowdoin remained scoreless through four innings, before Emily Griffin singled in the bottom of the fifth to spark a five run outpouring from the Polar bears. Griffin came around to score following a Geneseo error on a ball put into play by Nicole Nelson. Katie Gately advanced Nelson to third on a double to right field, with Hanna Wurgaft loading the bases on a dropped third strike. Melissa O'Toole collected an RBI single, followed by Geaumont's two run double to right.

The Polar Bears tallied two six run innings en route to the 15-0 win over Western New England. An RBI double by Cielle Collins and a two-run home run by Adriane Krul in the second inning helped Bowdoin jump out to an early lead. Krul had three extra-base hits in the game, while going 4-for-4 at the plate with as many RBIs. Collins, Gately, and Dimitria Spathakis combined for ten hits and 11 RBIs.

Bowdoin rounds out its spring break schedule with a pair of games Friday morning against Worcester State and Buffalo State.
