Box Score CLERMONT, Fla. – The Bowdoin softball team used a four run fifth to come from behind and hold off Keene State 4-2 on Wednesday afternoon.
The Polar Bears improve to 6-4 as the Owls fall to 1-2.
Keene State opened the game with a one-run first, holding their lead until the bottom of the fifth inning. A four run, two out, rally in the fifth provided the Polar Bears with enough offense to hold off Keene State down the stretch. Capitalizing on several errors by the Owls to advance Bowdoin runners, Tracy Shirey knocked a line drive to left to bring home the Polar Bears' first run. Adriane Krul stepped up next and belted a double to left, allowing Dimitria Spathakis and Shirey to come around and score. A third straight hit by Emily Griffin put Bowdoin up 4-1. Keene State halved the Polar Bears lead in the next inning, but could not close the gap further.
Griffin pitched all seven innings for Bowdoin, allowing just two runs off six hits while fanning six.
The Polar Bears return to action on March 20 with a pair of games against SUNY Geneseo (9:00 a.m.) and Western New England (11:00 a.m.)
