SALEM, Mass. - Kirsten Prue scored 14 points as the Bowdoin College women's basketball team never trailed in a season-opening 66-55 win over Norwich University Friday night at the Salem State Tip-Off Tournament.

The Polar Bears (1-0) will play the host Vikings for the tournament title Saturday at 3:00 p.m.

Prue led the Polar Bears with her 14-point output and added four rebounds, four assists and four steals in the victory. Megan Phelps dropped in 11 points and nine rebounds while Shannon Brady scored 12 points and collected six rebounds. In all, 11 different players score for the Polar Bears, who held a 26-5 advantage in bench points. Aliah Curry led all players with 21 points for Norwich.

Bowdoin quickly jumped to a 17-4 lead after just five minutes of play before the Cadets started chipping away at the Polar Bear lead. Prue nailed a three-pointer to give Bowdoin a 32-25 advantage with under two minutes to play in the half, only to have Curry trim the lead to 32-28 with a trifecta just before intermission.

The Polar Bears couldn't pull away from the Cadets early in the second half and Norwich pulled within two points, at 49-47, following a Kelsey Lotti three-pointer with 6:46 to go. But Prue responded with a three-pointer for Bowdoin on the very next possession, pushing the lead back to five points, 52-47. The shot sparked a 10-2 run for Bowdoin , capped by a Phelps lay-in and free throw that made it 59-49 with 4:15 to play.

Bowdoin connected on 46% of its shots for the night while holding Norwich to 32% from the field. The Polar Bears held a 41-37 edge on the boards but turned the ball over 20 times, leading to 19 Norwich points.
